Opportunity comes knocking
Have you ever stumbled into an opportunity that literally just felt meant to be? Well friend; that was me when I got the chance to shoot these in home newborn photos in Bend, Oregon. One of my dearest Bend Oregon photographer friends, and someone I admire so much, reach out to me with a dilemma; she was sick with a newborn session scheduled. Caitlin got a hold of me and put me in contact with this sweet new mama; Samantha. While I was nervous to fill Caitlin’s huge shoes (seriously, check out her work here) in providing in home newborn photos, I was sooooo excited for the opportunity.

My favorite part of in home newborn photos, other than the squishy cute newborn, is getting to chat with mamas. It is such a beautiful and healing experience to realize as we chat through breastfeeding, birth stories, long nights, the newest gear; that we are all connected. We may have our own nuances and unique stories but the ties that bind us are shared. We all love our babies. We all want whats best for them. We’re all struggling a bit to make it happen! AND, we could all use a little coffee and a lot of encouragement.
I started Baby August’s session the way I start all my in home newborn photos; chatting up mom and requesting a short home tour. During the tour I am looking for those perfect pockets of light, and asking Mom where she would like her photos. Then I match up the two criteria and map out a sequence of prompts and locations in my mind. Samantha has the most beautiful cozy West Bend, Oregon home nestled at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. So needless to say we did not run out of perfect spots to shoot.
We spent the next hour and a half chatting all the things about new babies, “ooo-ing” and “ah-ing” over sweet baby Auggie, and snapping the cutest in home newborn photos ever. I cannot wait to see this sweet family again as they continue to grow and thrive in beautiful Bend, Oregon.
