I wont lie; I was a little skeptical to shoot Mallory and Chandler’s family photos at Sparks Lake this August. Don’t get me wrong, its a stunning spot tucked away on the Cascade lakes Highway; however, its also wildfire season out here in the West! Which means at any time the epic locations I use for my family photos are off limits for safety reasons.
Speaking of family photo locations; I always have six locations available for my clients to choose from listed in a Location PDF Guide. This helps clients see other family photo sessions shot at each location to help visualize their own, and it gives them valuable information like how far away the locations are and how accessible they are.
Sparks Lake is a new location I wanted to add to my family photos location guide so despite the looming wildfire we decided to give it a go! The wildfire turned out to be in our favor for this particular evening; we had all of Sparks Lake to ourselves. We may have missed out on the epic mountain reflection BUT the smoke added such a unique backdrop and offered super even diffused lighting… a family photographers dream!
