There are sooooo many things to research and obsess over as an expectant mama; lets not make documenting this incredible time one of them! here are three tips for a dreamy maternity session! These tips are, in my opinion, above and beyond type steps to ensure you feel and look like the absolute goddess that you are when you show up for you maternity session with me.
Tip #1 for a dreamy maternity session: wear the dang dress!
Wear the dress! Wear the freaking dress mama! The more dramatic the better in my opinion, but simply trading out the maternity jeans for a flowy or form fitting maternity dress will absolutely uplevel your maternity photography gallery. Something about the flow and the femininity of a dress not only is gorgeous on its own but I’ve also noticed it gives mama’s a whole different level of confidence and it SHOWS! This is as special a time as it gets so it’s the perfect time to go for it and wear the dang thing! One more note on this before I jump to the next tip; make sure you try your dress on with enough time to trade it out if you need too! Pregnancy is a wild time of body changes. you may put on a dress you would have loved on your pre pregnancy body but they style just doesnt feel right anymore, give yourself plenty of time to change your mind! and heck, if you end up with multiple options that you love, bring them all and we can throw in an outfit change mid maternity session.
Tip #2: make it the priority of your day!
If you can, try not to schedule a ton of extra things the day of your maternity session. When I was pregnant with both my babes I remember thinking if I didn’t sneak a nap on my lunch break I wouldn’t survive the rest of the day! So if you can schedule your session for a day off of work or a day when you have some help with any childcare, do it! The rest and lower stress level is going to help you stay confident and cool at your session and when you’re more comfortable, your beauty is gonna glow that much brighter!
Tip #3: get to the salon first!
Get your nails done! This one truly comes from my heart, because, unfortunately I’m a nail biter. So whether you hit the salon for a full set of acrylics, pop on your favorite peel and stick nails, or snag a nice neutral nail polish; having a manicure will absolutely uplevel your maternity session gallery. I always suggest this tip for any session type, but with maternity sessions there’s a much higher focus on detailed shots and shots of you with your hands on your bump and the nails are much more front and center!
I hope these few tips help you channel the inner goddess you are and rock the socks off your maternity session! Head over to my info page www.juniperandrustphotography.com/info to read more about the experience of a maternity session with me!
