Mama, this is one of the biggest days (or nights!) of you, your spouse, and your little babes life. No one even considers whether or not to have their wedding documented by a professional photographer; why risk missing a single perfectly detailed moment in your birth!? If you hire a Birth Photographer it allows you to stay in the moment, frees up your spouse from worrying about taking photos, & has the added bonus of an extra set of knowledgable hands to help out when needed. When you’re done checking out exactly why you should snag a birth photography spot for your labor and delivery, head over to my instagram page where I share more of my birth galleries, tips & tricks, and more.
It allows you to focus on your birth
No need to ask the nurse or doula or your spouse to take a few photos, no need to worry about whether or not they got a good shot! Hiring a birth photographer allows you to stay completely in the moment knowing that documenting your birth story is taken care of by an experienced professional. It can be daunting, especially for first time moms and dads, to consider what to take photos of in the moment. I have attended a ton of births, most birth photographers have, and I know what moments are most memorable, and what details you’ll want to have and share.
Remembering and revisiting your birth in perfect detail
Speaking from experience; it’s easy to forget the little details of your birth. It can be incredibly intense whether you’re birthing at home, in a birth center, or a hospital; there can be a lot going on! not to mention that you may be in a lot of pain at the time. Hiring a birth photographer puts you more at ease knowing they’ll capture all the little details and big moments so you can revisit them as many times as you want throughout the years.
Take the pressure off your birth partners
It often falls on your spouse or other birth workers to snap photos here and there while they support you through your labor and delivery. Hiring a birth photographer allows allllll of your birth attendants to focus solely on you and supporting you in whatever way you need at any moment. Plus, birth environments can be nice and dim, which is ideal for your experience but not so much for an iphone camera. Hiring a birth photographer with the right gear for the job ensures you get higher quality images without the flash. Some of my favorite birth shots are of mom and dad together in the moment too. I had nice enough nurses during my births to snap one or two photos of my husband and I with our new babies but nothing compares to getting those meaningful, detailed, shots of you and your partner working through the experience together.
High quality images to introduce your new bundle to the world
We live in an awesome era of being able to share big news like the arrival of your babe almost instantaneously with family and friends. As a birth photographer I know how much of a difference it makes to be able to share hi resolution, detailed shots of your new bundle to the world instead of those grainy cell phone images you try to snap yourself from your bed. I always deliver a few sneak peaks from birth galleries within just a few hours so you have them on your phone and can share them with whomever you cant wait to share your news with!
Having another mama in the room with you is *chefs kiss* awesome!
Depending on your birth environment this can be a HUGE plus! Just having someone else there that has been through what you’re experiencing, someone to truly empathize with you and validate your feelings is so beneficial in such a vulnerable time. I always tell myself I’ll just be a fly on the wall; inevitably I get excited and end up offering to fetch more towels, grab your water for you, grab you a snack to keep you going; whatever you need to help make this experience as easy and magical as you need. Raising kiddos takes a village for sure, but having a small village surrounding you for their birth is a GAME CHANGER.
