my first lifestyle Newborn Session of 2023 with one of my favorite families. (lets be real all my families are my favorites!) The Lavender family was also my first maternity photography session on New Years Day this year and it was the perfect way to kick off this season.
There’s so many benefits to this job and this family photography business that I did not see coming and my favorite is the community we’re building! The Lavender family was referred to me by one of my first clients; her best friend in fact! and that family; the Coffey family, has been in front of my camera twice now and over to my house for the super bowl once. When I started this business in 2021 I really didn’t have a long term vision other than, “good Lord please don’t let me fail.” ironically, I hadn’t determined yet what would constitute success or failure. Basically I figured if I made some money, that would be cool.
As I’m cruising into 2023 working with wonderful families like this one; my definition of success finally landed in my lap. Connection and community for the families I work with. It’s the same reason I could never niche down now. I want to create a community feel from your wedding through your babies births, hopefully all the way to their graduation day. I want you to think of scheduling a session with me as catching up with the family photographer, not hiring a stranger. I want your littles to recognize me and all my gear when they jump out of the car! Think, old school family doctor vs. a modern day clinic. I want to be in for the long haul to tell the story of your family’s life. In fact, it would be an honor.
When I show up for your lifestyle newborn session with your coffee order in hand, I want you to be infinitely comfortable. (as comfortable as postpartum gets!) Instead of a professional stranger you’ll get a fellow mama that’s been there, not rushed, ready to listen to your birth story if you feel you need to share. ready to hold the baby if you need a minute to finish your make up.
As a millennial mama myself; I know we’re in a weird spot in history. More connected than ever by the device in our hands, able to see all the curated scenes from each others lives. But we lack the “village” we used to have. So I figure let’s build our own. I’ve babysat for previous clients, become best friends with others, sent coffee gift cards to others when I see them share something difficult online. whose to say we can’t build our own village again?
if this resonates with you, head over to my instagram account, you’re always welcome! whether you’re a Redmond Oregon mama that just needs some solidarity, or know you might want a more raw and real lifestyle newborn session experience in the future & want to know more, you’ll find everything you need to know there!
