I am going to be 100% honest here…. this was actually my first ever Senior Portrait Session. Like ever; hadn’t even done one for free in my early days to practice! BUT, my motto in this first year of business is to confidently try any session that I’m interested in. So I dove right in! I watched a ton of videos from the Heart University on posing senior portrait sessions and solo portrait sessions, raided Pinterest, and talked with the Senior herself; Hailey, for inspiration. And dang! I am so happy I jumped in and tried it! The me from a year ago would definitely have either turned it down, not charged my worth, or have taken it and just STRESSED the entire time.
It was honestly so so much fun and such a breath of fresh air to work with a teenager. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but it was exciting to add in her horse, her dog named Pete, even her mama! to recognize and celebrate this special season of her life. It was so neat how she incorporated different aspects of her life right now into her Senior Portrait Session. We tried all kinds of poses, lighting scenarios, and outfits to make sure she felt totally confident and natural in front of the camera… and if I do say so myself… She nailed it!
Hailey works out at Black Butte Ranch in beautiful Sisters, Oregon. We were granted permission to use the Stables and fields there with epic views of the Sisters Mountain Range. The light was tough to work with but I learned a ton about how to position and back light the subject to get a clear image without any wild shadows.
I am SOOO excited to offer more Senior Portrait Sessions in the future. I keep telling myself that I’ll start niching down… but what do those dang experts know anyways? Currently I am planning on dedicating as much of August each year to celebrate graduating high school with some awesome teenagers! If you have a teen or a friend thats coming up on this huge milestone; send them on over to my instagram where they can keep up with all the Senior Portrait Session information I’ll be putting out! Head over to my family portraits info page for all the deetz on scheduling and pricing!
