Central Oregon is full of epic family photography locations but there’s something so much sweeter about a capturing families in their own lived in spaces. This Terrebonne, Oregon family chose to have their family photos on their ancestral family ranch. This family has roots that go deep in the Terrebonne, Oregon soil with three generations living in their own unique corners of their farm; close enough for side-by-side rides to grandma and great grandma’s houses! We included their gentle giant horses that they use for their wagon driving teams too which was such a sweet personal touch to their story.
To make a sweet family session even sweeter; I went to highschool with Jacob and connected with his wife Sara years later while herding our small children through the local gymnastics studio. Her and I quickly bonded over rowdy homes, farm chores, and homeschooling our children just down the road from each other. My favorite thing about my family photography work is that it feels a bit like the old town Doctor idea. Almost every family I work with is a local family raising kids in the same parks, pools, and homeschool co-ops that I raise mine. It brings such a personal touch to my work and makes me feel more invested in the growth and change in my community and the families I document.
